Arm Lift

There is only so much you can do about lax skin on the back of your arms. Weight loss and exercise can reduce fat and tone muscle, but those embarrassing “bat wings” often persist. At Reveal Plastic Surgery, our board-certified plastic surgeons, Dr. Steven J. Bates and Dr. Benjamin Maser, offer an effective solution called brachioplasty. Often called an arm lift, this surgery helps patients from San Jose, Palo Alto, Los Gatos, and other Silicon Valley communities ditch the long sleeves and feel more confident exposing their arms.

Request a free consultation with Dr. Maser or Dr. Bates at Reveal Plastic Surgery or call (408) 356-4241 to schedule your appointment today.

What Is an Arm Lift?

An arm lift is a plastic surgery procedure that restores firm contours to the upper arms by removing excess skin and fat.

Arm Lift Candidates

Ideal candidates for arm lift surgery are adults in good health who do not need to lose a significant amount of weight. Many people choose this procedure after massive weight loss and combine it with a tummy tuck or body lift. People who develop sagging upper arms due to the natural aging process are good candidates for arm lift surgery as well.

How Is an Arm Lift Performed?

Dr. Bates and Dr. Maser typically perform arm lift surgery as an outpatient procedure using local anesthetic with IV sedation or general anesthetic. Patients with excess fat in the upper arms and good skin elasticity may benefit from liposuction alone. Otherwise, your surgeon makes an incision near the underarm or along the underside of the arm, depending on patient needs. He then tightens the underlying tissues and removes the excess skin and fat. The incisions are carefully closed with sutures, and the arms are wrapped in bandages.

Arm Lift Recovery

After arm lift surgery, most patients are ready to return to non-strenuous jobs within 1 to 2 weeks. Discomfort is usually minor and easily managed with prescription medication. You will need to wear compression wraps for the first 1 or 2 weeks to minimize bruising and swelling.

Your New Look

While brachioplasty leaves visible scarring, it also provides dramatic improvements—both in one’s appearance and physical comfort. With proper care, the scars become thin and fade significantly during the first year in most cases.
