We’re taking a look again, at what patients are most interested in, in Cosmetic Surgery. You may be surprised to know that areas of interest, do change from year to year, even though the change may be slight.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) polls its member surgeons each year. These are some of the figures reported for 2016.
TOP 5 COSMETIC SURGERY PROCEDURES
1. Breast Augmentation
2. Liposuction
3. Nose Reshaping (Rhinoplasty)
4. Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
5. Facelift

What this tells us, is that the top surgical wants of the plastic surgery consumer, have remained pretty consistent from the year prior (2015). There is a little movement, up and down, in some of the top procedures, but the leaders; Breast Augmentation, Lipo, Nose, Eyes, Face (and Tummy), are still strongly popular. All of the Top 5 are up in terms of numbers of procedures performed, with Liposuction picking up the most:

AT WHAT AGE ARE PEOPLE GETTING PLASTIC SURGERY?
Quick answer here. Just about all ages – (female and male.) *92% of cosmetic procedures were performed on women.
The majority of cosmetic procedures are performed on the 40 – 54 year old age group. Last year, 7.6 million surgical and non-surgical procedures were performed on patients in this age range. (an increase of 3% from the prior year)
Those 55 and over, had 4.1 million total procedures.
30 – 39 year olds – 2.8 million procedures
20 – 29 year olds – 829,000 procedures
13 – 19 year olds – 229,000 procedures
NON-SURGICAL PROCEDURES
Once again, Botox is on top, with procedures numbering more than 7 million.
Injectable Fillers are next, with close to 3 million procedures.
WHAT’S POPULAR IN DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE COUNTRY?
The western region of the country posts more cosmetic surgeries in general than the rest of the nation. It’s number one for most of the top procedures listed above. The eastern region, however, had a higher number of Rhinoplasty cases than the west, and a higher number of “Brazilian Butt Lifts” (Buttock Augmentation with Fat Grafting).
WHAT’S TRENDING UPWARD?
Gaining in popularity in the last year are procedures using the patient’s own fat for other purposes; such as Brazilian Butt Lift, and breast augmentation with fat transfer. In addition, Labiaplasty is a procedure being more and more requested.
People do want to investigate new and different procedures, some of which will become standards. While you tend to hear a lot about ‘trends’ – what you can probably see from these figures, is also a good deal of stability in the popularity of the procedures that answer the needs of the majority of people. Most often, patients want to maintain, refresh, or rejuvenate what nature has given them.
